French Riviera Motorcycle Film Festival: from 2 to 4 March in Nice

“2” is the perfect number when you’re talking about enjoying magic experiences and adventures on wheels, and we members of Proud Owners know this better than anyone else. The kind of special moments, thrills and feelings that we simply love to go out and experience first-hand and then come back and tell others about with a smile on our faces and a twinkle in our eyes.
Stories about bikers and bikes of any sort, short stories and long stories, stories about the past and the present, “on-road” or “off-road” stories, we really do love them all, as long as they get that twin-ventricle engine that sits in our chests pulsing.

Now there’s a new festival that’s tailor made for us! The French Riviera Motorcycle Film Festival has come along to tell us those very stories, and to do so it by exploiting the magic of the movies and the magnificent backdrop of the French Riviera.

From 2 to 4 March, Nice will be putting the spotlight on two-wheeler passion in a series of documentary, drama, short and full-length movies produced by both professional and amateur international film makers that all have one thing in common, namely a love of bikes. Proof of this is the choice of the Chairman of the jury, a man who – to state the obvious – knows quite a bit about bikes, none other than Freddie Spencer, 3-times World Motorcycle racing champion and still a passionate promoter of shows and events that celebrate the love of biking.

However, this very first French Riviera Motorcycle Film Festival is not all just about screenings and awards. Indeed, as the organisers are very keen to point out, the feel of this event is much the same as that at a bikers rallyBrotherhood, like-mindedness and friendship is what all the participants will experience as they get to spend some time with the film makers, actors and biking celebrities to share opinions, technical tips and road trip stories.

There are far too many film titles to mention them all here (see the list at the end of the article), but for all you avid fans of Moto Guzzi’s sporting history, there is one true little gem that will be screened but won’t be participating in the competition as such, but is nevertheless worth a mention, namely Romolo Marcellini’s “I fidanzati della morte”. A concentrate of love and rivalry set in the crazy bike racing world of the 1950s. A truly exceptional film that has recently been restored to resuscitate the original charm of its exciting scenes drawn from real races at the Monza circuit and the legendary Milan – Taranto, as well as a number of scenes shot inside the Moto Guzzi factory at Mandello del Lario, including some of the tests conducted in the legendary wind tunnel.

So, are you ready for a high-definition biking experience?
